Luxor Temple, LuxorLocated in Luxor, on the east bank of the River Nile, the Luxor Temple was a sacred venue for many ancient Egyptian rituals. The temple was built by Amenhotep III in the 14th century BC, and expanded a century later by Rameses II. Among the ancient rites performed threr was the Opet Festival, where a statue of Amun (king of the gods) was paraded down the Nile to join his consort Mut, a mother-goddess, in a celebration of fertility. Over centuries of seasonal floods, the temple became covered in river silt, and several buildings were erected over it, including the Abu el-Haggag Mosque. More Cruise and Touring Holiday Options |
