Karnak Temple, Luxor

Egypt's ancient Karnak Temple has stood for more than 4,000 years, and remains one of the world's most significant, and certainly the most impressive religious structures. Part of the monumental city of Thebes, Karnak is a collection of temples and other religious buildings, around a sacred lake. The temple complex was a city of the gods ruled over by the pharaohs - priest-kings considered as living gods by their worshippers. There are four main precincts, of which only the largest, the Precinct of Amun-Re, is open to the general public.
