Jewels of the Nile Tour

3 nights Cairo, 4 nights Nile Cruise, 7 nights Hurghada

Luxor, Karnak, Thebes, Aswan and Cairo... just a few of the familiar names on this tour that conjure up the very essence of Egypt – plus the option to experience the marvel that is Abu Simbel*, the Unesco heritage site saved from the waters of Lake Nasser.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1-3: Arrival in Hurghada

Arrive in Hurghada on Friday and transfer to your hotel. The tour starts on Monday, so you can relax and enjoy the Red Sea until the itinerary commences.

Day 4: Luxor and Karnak

On Monday morning, transfer to Luxor by coach to join your luxurious Nile cruise ship. In the afternoon, visit the maze-like temple complex of Karnak and in the evening, the Luxor temple.

Day 5: Thebes

Start the day by crossing the Nile to the western bank of Thebes and the Valley of the Kings, where is an optional tour of the tomb of Tutankhamun.* Then view the imposing terrace temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and on to the enormous Colossi of Memnon. In the afternoon, sail to Edfu via Esna.

Day 6: Edfu and Kom Ombo

In the morning, visit the temple of Horus in Edfu, famous as the country's best preserved temple. Board the ship and continue down river to Kom Ombo for a visit to the impressive double temple of the crocodile- headed god Sobek. Later, relax on board as you sail on to Aswan.

Day 7: Agilika and the Aswan High Dam

From Aswan, take a motor boat to the island of Agilika, where the Temple of Philae, devoted to Isis, is located. Visit the famous Aswan High Dam, then spend the afternoon on a romantic felucca ride or motor boat ride on the Nile (subject to weather conditions).

Day 8: Aswan

A free day to spend as you choose exploring Aswan and its lively, picturesque Souk, enjoying the optional excursion to Abu Simbel* or simply relaxing on board. In the afternoon, disembark and transfer to Aswan airport for your flight to Cairo.

Day 9: Cairo

Visit the Egyptian Museum° and the citadel of Salah El-Din with its alabaster mosque. After lunch wander the oriental Khan El Khalili Bazaar, or relax with mint-tea and a water- pipe in one of the many coffee shops.

Day 10: Giza and the Pyramids

Immerse yourself in the Egyptian Old Kingdom as you drive to Memphis with its alabaster Sphinx, then visit the Necropolis of Saqqara and its famous stepped pyramid. After lunch wonder at the Pyramids of Giza and the enigmatic Sphinx. In the evening there is an opportunity to experience the Sound & Light show* at the pyramids.

Day 11: Travel to Hurghada

Depart Cairo and travel to Hurghada by coach. The journey takes around 5 hours. On arrival, check in to your hotel.

Day 12-15: The Red Sea

Spend the rest of your holiday at leisure in your resort. On the day of departure you will transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
